Before using Ceclor (cefaclor), tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding if you are taking any other prescription or nonprescription medicine if you have any other medical condition, including diabetes, kidney, liver or gastrointestinal disease |
What special warning(s) should I be aware of when taking Ceclor (cefaclor)?

Doctors should determine whether the patient is allergic to any cefaclor, cephalosporins, penicillins, or other medicines. Discontinue use if an allergic reaction occurs. Serious allergic reactions may require treatment. Cefaclor kills susceptible bacteria by interfering with formation of the bacteria's cell wall while it is growing. This weakens the cell wall and it ruptures resulting in the death of the bacteria. |
What are the side effects of Ceclor (cefaclor)?

Most severe: Severe allergic reactions (redness, itching, swelling, hives, difficulty breathing).
|

Most common: Rash; hives; itching; fever; joint pain; and inflammation; fluid retention; difficulty breathing; skin inflammation; weakness; abnormal skin sensations; fainting; flushing; skin redness; nausea; vomiting; diarrhea; stomach pain; seizures; genital, vaginal, and anal itching.

How should I take Ceclor (cefaclor)?
|
How much medicine you take and how often you take it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Ceclor (cefaclor) you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Shake well before use. May be taken with food or milk. If diarrhea, stomach pain, cramps, nausea, vomiting, or bloody stools occur, contact your doctor at once. This could be a symptom of a serious side effect requiring immediate medical attention. Do not treat diarrhea without consulting your doctor. Continue use until all of Ceclor (cefaclor) has been taken. Failure to take all of Ceclor (cefaclor) may prevent complete elimination of bacteria, allowing the infection to return. May produce allergic reactions, ranging from mild itching and rash to life-threatening problems requiring immediate medical attention. Report any allergic reaction to your doctor. Serum sickness-like reactions ( skin rashes with inflammation, pain in the joints, and fever) have been reported. Symptoms usually occur a few days after beginning therapy and resolve after Ceclor (cefaclor) is discontinued. Diabetic patients- Ceclor (cefaclor) can interfere with urine test for glucose and may give false test results. Lab tests may be needed to monitor therapy. Be sure to keep appointments. Do not stop taking Ceclor (cefaclor) without checking with your doctor. Do not take more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your doctor or health care provider. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking Ceclor (cefaclor). Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your doctor. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your doctor. If more than one dose is missed, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
