What are the side effects of Imdur (isosorbide mononitrate)?

Most severe: Lightheadedness; fainting; increased chest pain; other heart problems; severe allergic reaction (hives; swelling of the throat and face).
|
|
Most common: Headache; dizziness; fatigue; nausea.
|
|
Other: Increased cough; rash; stomach pain; hives; diarrhea; flushing; mood swings; itching. Imdur (isosorbide mononitrate) may cause dependence and tolerance may develop. Withdrawal should be gradual.

How should I take Imdur (isosorbide mononitrate)?
|
How much medicine you take and how often you take it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated, your age, and weight. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Imdur (isosorbide mononitrate) you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Imdur (isosorbide mononitrate) should be taken once daily, preferably in the morning upon waking up. Do not crush, chew or divide Tablet. Headaches are a common side effect while taking Imdur (isosorbide mononitrate). You can use aspirin or acetaminophen to stop the headaches without affecting the benefits of Imdur (isosorbide mononitrate). Do not try to avoid headaches by changing the time you take Imdur (isosorbide mononitrate). Lightheadedness can occur, especially when rising from a lying or seated position. This effect may be more frequent in patients who also have consumed alcohol. Avoid using alcohol while taking Imdur (isosorbide mononitrate). Imdur (isosorbide mononitrate) may cause dizziness. Use caution while driving or performing other tasks requiring alertness, coordination, or physical dexterity. Do not stop taking Imdur (isosorbide mononitrate) without checking with your health care provider. Do not take more medication than prescribed unless advised to do so by your health care provider or health care provider. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking Imdur (isosorbide mononitrate). Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. This includes any herbal preparations or dietary supplements. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your health care provider. If more than one dose is missed, restart medication and advise your health care provider or pharmacist at your next visit.
