What is Imodium (loperamide) used for? |
Imodium (loperamide) is used for symptomatic relief of acute nonspecific diarrhea; for chronic diarrhea associated with inflammatory bowel disease; and for reducing the volume of discharge for ileostomies, colostomies and other intestinal resections.

Do not take Imodium (loperamide) if you are allergic to any ingredient in Imodium (loperamide) or similar medications if you have blood in stools and fever |
What precautions should I follow when taking Imodium (loperamide) ?

Before using Imodium (loperamide), tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine if you have any other medical condit |

Imodium (loperamide) must be used only casually to treat the symptoms of diarrhea. Drink plenty of fluids to replace fluid and electrulyte loss due to diarrhea. Imodium (loperamide) should be kept out of reach of children. Due to the particular ease with which the quick-dissolve tablets may be swallowed, special care should be taken when storing Imodium (loperamide). |

Most common: Abdominal pain or discomfort; drowsiness or dizziness; tiredness; dry mouth; nausea and vomiting;

How should I take Imodium (loperamide)?
|
How much medicine you take and how often you take it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Imodium (loperamide) you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Carefully read the information provided with Imodium (loperamide) and reread it each time you get this prescription refilled. Take Imodium (loperamide) exactly as prescribed by your health care provider. Imodium (loperamide) may cause dizziness and changes in vision. Use caution while driving or performing other tasks requiring alertness, coordination, or physical dexterity. Do not take more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Contact your health care provider at once if you feel like you have taken too much of Imodium (loperamide). Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. This includes any herbal preparations or dietary supplements. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your health care provider. If more than one dose is missed, contact your health care provider or pharmacist.
