What special warning(s) should I be aware of when taking Isopto Carbachol (carbachol)?

Isopto Carbachol (carbachol) is for ophthalmic use only. Do not inject Isopto Carbachol (carbachol). Isopto Carbachol (carbachol) should be used with caution in the presence of corneal abrasion to avoid excessive penetration which can produce systemic toxicity; and in patients with acute cardiac failure, bronchial asthma, active peptic ulcer, hyperthyroidism, gastrointestinal spasm, urinary tract obstruction, Parkinson's disease, recent myocardial infarct, systemic hypertension or hypotension. As with all miotics, retinal detachment has been reported when Isopto Carbachol (carbachol) is used in certain susceptible individuals. |
What are the side effects of Isopto Carbachol (carbachol)?

Most severe: Salivation, syncope, cardiac arrhythmia, gastrointestinal cramping, vomiting, asthma, hypotension, diarrhea, frequent urge to urinate, increased sweating, and irritation of eyes.

Most common: Increased redness, burning, stinging

Other: Blurring of vision

How should I take Isopto Carbachol (carbachol)?
|
How much medicine you take and how often you take it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Isopto Carbachol (carbachol) you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Carefully read the information provided with Isopto Carbachol (carbachol) and reread it each time you get this prescription refilled. Take Isopto Carbachol (carbachol) exactly as prescribed by your health care provider. Isopto Carbachol (carbachol) may cause changes in vision. Do not touch dropper tip to any surface, as this may contaminate the solution. Use caution while driving or performing other tasks requiring alertness, coordination, or physical dexterity. Lab tests will be necessary before, during, and after the use of Isopto Carbachol (carbachol). Be sure to keep appointments. Do not stop taking Isopto Carbachol (carbachol) without checking with your health care provider. Do not take more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Contact your health care provider at once if you feel like you have taken too much of Isopto Carbachol (carbachol). Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. This includes any herbal preparations or dietary supplements. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your health care provider. If more than one dose is missed, contact your health care provider or pharmacist.

Store Isopto Carbachol (carbachol) in a cool, dry place at room temperature. Keep out of reach of children. Protect from light. Discard Isopto Carbachol (carbachol) after four weeks of opening it. |
