Lithium Carbonate (due to nature of the drug, we do not dispense) is used to treat manic episodes of manic-depressive illness. It is also used to prevent or decrease the frequency and intensity of subsequent manic episodes.

Do not take Lithium Carbonate (due to nature of the drug, we do not dispense) if you are allergic to any ingredient in Lithium Carbonate (due to nature of the drug, we do not dispense) you have significant kidney or heart disease you have severe debilitation or are dehydrated you are taking diuretics (water pills) you have very low salt levels

Before using Lithium Carbonate (due to nature of the drug, we do not dispense), tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine if you have any other medical condition

You will need to be tested for the correct dose before you start taking Lithium Carbonate (due to nature of the drug, we do not dispense).

How much medicine you take and how often you take it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated, your age, and weight. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Lithium Carbonate (due to nature of the drug, we do not dispense) you are taking, talk with your health care provider. If stomach upset occurs, take after meals or with milk. Watch for signs of overdose, such as diarrhea, vomiting, lack of coordination, giddiness, blurred vision, ringing in the ears, feeling of a whirling motion, increased urination, drowsiness, or muscle weakness. Lithium Carbonate (due to nature of the drug, we do not dispense) may cause drowsiness. Use caution while driving or performing other tasks requiring alertness, coordination, or physical dexterity. Drink 8 to 12 glasses of water or other liquid every day while taking Lithium Carbonate (due to nature of the drug, we do not dispense). Maintain a regular diet. Use regular amounts of table salt in food. If sweating, diarrhea, or infection with fever occurs, contact your doctor. Your doctor may need to change the amount of medicine you are taking or prescribe increased fluids or salt supplements. Hand tremor, excessive urination, and mild thirst may occur at the beginning of treatment, but may continue throughout treatment. Mild nausea and general discomfort may also appear during the first few days. If these continue, contact your doctor. It may take 2 to 3 weeks for Lithium Carbonate (due to nature of the drug, we do not dispense) to take effect. Lab tests may be required to monitor therapy. Be sure to keep appointments. Do not stop taking Lithium Carbonate (due to nature of the drug, we do not dispense) without checking with your health care provider. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking Lithium Carbonate (due to nature of the drug, we do not dispense). Do not take more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your doctor or health care provider. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your doctor. If more than one dose is missed, contact your doctor or pharmacist.

Store Lithium Carbonate (due to nature of the drug, we do not dispense) between 59 and 86 degrees F. Protect from moisture.
