What is Lozol (indapamide) used for? |
Lozol (indapamide) is either used alone or in combination with other medications, for the treatment of high blood pressure. It is also used for the treatment of swelling associated with heart failure. It should not be used for swelling due to pregnancy.

When should Lozol (indapamide) not be taken?
|
Do not take Lozol (indapamide) if you are allergic to any ingredient in Lozol (indapamide) or to similar medications. |
What precautions should I follow when taking Lozol (indapamide) ?
|

Before using Lozol (indapamide), tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, plan on becoming pregnant, or breastfeeding if you are taking any prescription or nonprescription medicine if you have any other medical condition. Patients using Lozol (indapamide) should be carefully monitored for serum electrolytes and signs and symptoms of fluid or electrolyte imbalance; namely hyponatremia, hypochloremia and hypokalemia. BUN, uric acid, and glucose levels should also be assessed regularly during treatment. Hypokalemia (potassium deficiency) is more commonly associated with concomitant steroid or ACTH therapy and with inadequate electrolyte intake. The serum potassium should be determined at regular intervals and potassium supplementation should be indicated if necessary |
What special warning(s) should I be aware of when taking Lozol (indapamide)?

Use of Digitalis glycosides (heart medication) or Lithium with Lozol (indapamide) may increase the chance of side effects of these drugs. The presence of other medical conditions like diabetes, gout, kidney disease or liver disease may affect the use of Lozol (indapamide). |
What are the side effects of Lozol (indapamide)?

Most severe: Electrolyte imbalance resulting in dryness of the mouth, thirst, weakness, lethargy, drowsiness, restlessness, muscle pains or cramps, muscle fatigue, hypotension, oliguria, gastrointestinal disturbances such as nausea and vomiting, tachycardia and ECG changes.

Most common: Headache; infection; pain; back pain; dizziness; loss of energy; weakness; flu-like symptoms; stomach pain; chest pain; constipation; diarrhea; indigestion; swelling; nervousness; muscle soreness or stiffness; cough; sore throat; sinus inflammation; numbness of extremities; tension; anxiousness; irritability.

Other: Orthostatic hypotension, skin rash, tinnitus, malaise, fainting and sweating.

How should I take Lozol (indapamide)?
|
How much medicine you take and how often you take it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Lozol (indapamide) you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Diabetic patients may experience a loss of glucose control. Be prepared to monitor your blood sugar levels more frequently. Lozol (indapamide) may cause dizziness or lightheadedness, especially when rising from a seated or lying position. If this occurs, sit or lie down and contact your doctor. Lozol (indapamide) should be taken once daily in the morning because it increases urination. Lozol (indapamide) should be used with caution in women who are pregnant. Be sure to contact your health care provider if you become pregnant while taking Lozol (indapamide). Lab test may be needed. Be sure to keep appointments. Lozol (indapamide) may cause loss of potassium. Notify your physician if dry mouth, thirst, weakness, fatigue, drowsiness, restlessness, muscle pains or cramps, low blood pressure, urination problems, rapid heart beat, and stomach upset. Lozol (indapamide) may cause dizziness; patients should observe caution while driving or performing other tasks requiring alertness, coordination, or physical dexterity. Do not stop taking Lozol (indapamide) without checking with your health care provider. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking Lozol (indapamide). Do not take more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your health care provider. If more than one dose is missed, contact your health care provider or pharmacist.

How should Lozol (indapamide) be stored?

Store Lozol (indapamide) at room temperature in a cool dry place, protect from heat and light. Keep all medicines out of the reach of children and pets. |
