What is Ocufen (flurbiprofen) used for? |

What precautions should I follow when taking Ocufen (flurbiprofen) ?

Before using Ocufen (flurbiprofen), tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or are breastfeeding if you are taking any other prescription or nonprescription medicine, such as NSAIDs (eg, ibuprofen) if you are a surgery patient with bleeding tendencies or you are taking other medicines that prolong bleeding time if you have any other medical condition |

Ocufen (flurbiprofen) is only for use in the eye. Do not take by mouth. Do not use Ocufen (flurbiprofen) more often than directed. |
What are the side effects of Ocufen (flurbiprofen)?

Most severe:ÿ Increased bleeding during surgery.
|
|
Most common:ÿ Eye irritation such as burning or stinging; fibrosis; contraction of the pupils; enlarged pupils.
|
|
Other:ÿ Delayed healing of wounds.
|
How should I take Ocufen (flurbiprofen)?
|
How much medicine you are given and how often it is given depends on many factors, including the condition being treated, your age, and weight. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of medicine you are being given, talk with your health care provider. A total of 4 drops should be given by instilling 1 drop approximately every half hour beginning 2 hours before surgery. Ocufen (flurbiprofen) may delay wound healing. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. Do not take more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking Ocufen (flurbiprofen). If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised to by your health care provider. If more than one dose is missed, contact your health care provider.
