What is Ocuflox Eyedrops (ofloxacin) used for? |
Ocuflox Eyedrops (ofloxacin) is used to treat eye infections associated with conjunctivitis(pink eye) and corneal ulcers caused by certain bacteria in patients 1 year of age and older.

Before using Ocuflox Eyedrops (ofloxacin), tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding if you are taking any prescription medicine, nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement if you have any other medical condition |

Prolonged use of Ocuflox Eyedrops (ofloxacin) sometimes promotes the growth of germs that are resistant to Ocuflox Eyedrops (ofloxacin). Ocuflox Eyedrops (ofloxacin) has been known to cause extremely serious allergic reactions leading to loss of consciousness and cardiovascular collapse. Early warning signs include a skin rash, hives, and itching. Other symptoms may include swelling of the face or throat, shortness of breath, tingling feeling, severe blisters and skin peeling. If you develop any of these symptoms, stop using Ocuflox and seek emergency help immediately. |
What are the side effects of Ocuflox Eyedrops (ofloxacin)?

Most severe: Loss of consciousness; severe allergic reaction (rash; hives; itching; difficulty breathing or swallowing; swelling of the face); infection (fever, chills, sore throat).
|
|
Most common: Burning or discomfort in the eye, including stinging, redness, and itching; foreign body sensation; sensitivity to sunlight; blurred vision; tearing; dry eyes; eye pain.
|
|
Other: Dizziness; joint pain.
|
How should I take Ocuflox Eyedrops (ofloxacin)?
|
How much medicine you use and how often you use it depends on many factors, including the condition being treated, your age, and weight. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Ocuflox Eyedrops (ofloxacin) you are using, talk with your health care provider. Carefully read the patient leaflet provided with Ocuflox Eyedrops (ofloxacin) and reread it each time you get your prescription refilled. Do not inject Ocuflox Eyedrops (ofloxacin) into the eye. Do not touch the tip of the eye applicator with the eye, fingers, or any other surface. Ask your health care provider to teach you the proper techniques for placing Ocuflox Eyedrops (ofloxacin) in the eyes. Carefully follow the instructions given to you by your health care provider. Stop using Ocuflox Eyedrops (ofloxacin) and contact your health care provider at once if rash or any other signs of an allergic reaction (including rash, hives, itching, difficulty breathing or swallowing, or swelling of the face) occurs while using Ocuflox Eyedrops (ofloxacin). Continue to take Ocuflox Eyedrops (ofloxacin) until the entire prescribed amount has been taken, even if symptoms of infection have resolved. Failure to take all of Ocuflox Eyedrops (ofloxacin) may not completely eliminate the bacteria and may allow the infection to return. Long-term or repeated use of Ocuflox Eyedrops (ofloxacin) may cause a second infection. You may need to stop taking Ocuflox Eyedrops (ofloxacin) and start another medicine to treat the second infection. Contact your doctor if signs of a second infection occur. Ocuflox Eyedrops (ofloxacin) may cause dizziness or blurred vision. Use caution while driving or performing other tasks requiring alertness, coordination, or physical dexterity. Do not stop using Ocuflox Eyedrops (ofloxacin) without checking with your health care provider. Patients with previous medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before using Ocuflox Eyedrops (ofloxacin). Do not use more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Do not take any other over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. This includes any herbal preparations or dietary supplements. If a dose is missed, use it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised by your health care provider. If more than one dose is missed, contact your health care provider or pharmacist.
