What is Orudis (ketoprofen) used for? |
Orudis (ketoprofen) is used to treat osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and mild-to-moderate pain, including painful menstruation.

When should Orudis (ketoprofen) not be taken?
|
Do not take Orudis (ketoprofen) if you are allergic to any ingredient in Orudis (ketoprofen) or to similar medications you have experienced asthma, hives, gastrointestinal bleeding or allergic reactions after taking aspirin or similar medications |
What precautions should I follow when taking Orudis (ketoprofen) ?

Before using Orudis (ketoprofen), tell your health care provider about any of the following: if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding if you are taking any other prescription medicine, nonprescription medicine, herbal preparation, or dietary supplement if you have kidney disease if you have liver disease if you have heart disease or failure if you have asthma if you are taking water pills or corticosteroids if you have high blood pressure if you smoke if you have a history of peptic ulcer if you regularly consume large amounts of alcohol if you have any other medical condition like inflammatory bowel disease, history of rectal or anal bleeding, active liver disease, severely impaired kidney or liver function. |

Orudis (ketoprofen) can cause peptic ulcer, perforation and gastrointestinal bleeding which can be severe or fatal. Take Orudis (ketoprofen) with food. |
What are the side effects of Orudis (ketoprofen)?
|

Most severe: Persistent headache; allergic reaction (rash; hives; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue); yellowing of the skin or eyes; peptic ulceratio with or without bleeding; stomach perforation.

Most common: Indigestion; nausea; stomach pain; diarrhea; constipation; loss of appetite; gas; headache; swelling of the legs and feet.
|

Other: Vomiting; mouth sores; dizziness; chills; drowsiness; general body discomfort; depression; excitation; nervousness; sleeplessness; abnormal dreams; ringing in the ears; changes in vision.

How should I take Orudis (ketoprofen)?
|
How much medicine you take and how often it is taken depends on many factors, including the condition being treated and the age and weight of the patient. If you have any questions about the amount and/or frequency of Orudis (ketoprofen) you are taking, talk with your health care provider. Carefully read the information provided with Orudis (ketoprofen) and reread it each time you get this prescription refilled. Take Orudis (ketoprofen) exactly as prescribed by your health care provider. Orudis (ketoprofen) may be taken with food, milk, or antacids if stomach upset occurs. Avoid taking aspirin or similar medications (eg, ibuprofen) while taking Orudis (ketoprofen) unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Women who are in their last trimester of pregnancy should not take Orudis (ketoprofen) as it may harm the developing fetus. Long-term use may cause serious GI problems such a bleeding, ulceration, or perforation. Notify your doctor of signs of ulceration and bleeding (eg, bloody vomit, black or bloody stools, dizziness). Contact your health care provider at once if signs or symptoms of ulcers, bleeding in the stomach, rash, unexplained weight gain, or swelling occur. Contact your doctor at once if signs of an allergic reaction (rash; hives; difficulty breathing; tightness in the chest; swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue) occur. Orudis (ketoprofen) may cause drowsiness, dizziness, or changes in vision. Use caution while driving or performing other tasks that require alertness, coordination, or physical dexterity. Avoid drinking alcohol while taking Orudis (ketoprofen). Lab tests may be required to monitor therapy if you are taking Orudis (ketoprofen) long-term. Be sure to keep appointments. Patients with other medical conditions should talk with their health care provider before taking Orudis (ketoprofen). Do not take more medicine than prescribed unless advised to do so by your health care provider. Contact your health care provider at once if you feel you have taken too much of Orudis (ketoprofen). Do not take any over-the-counter or prescription medications without talking with your health care provider. This includes any herbal preparations or dietary supplements. If a dose is missed, take it as soon as possible. If several hours have passed or if it is nearing time for the next dose, do not double the dose to catch up, unless advised to by your health care provider. If more than one dose is missed, contact your health care provider.

Store Orudis (ketoprofen) at room temperature (approximately 77 degrees F) in a tightly closed container. Protect from direct light and humidity. |
