Description
Indications
Eslicarbazepine is administered concomitantly with other pharmacological agents to effectively manage focal (partial) seizures, which specifically affect localized regions of the brain. Eslicarbazepine belongs to a class of pharmaceuticals known as anticonvulsants, designed to modulate and mitigate epileptic activity. Its mechanism of action involves the reduction of abnormal neuronal excitation within the cerebral cortex.
Uses and Dosage
Eslicarbazepine is available in tablet form for oral administration. Strictly adhere to the prescribed instructions when taking eslicarbazepine. Altering the dosage by taking more or less than prescribed, or increasing the frequency of administration, is not recommended.
The tablets may be swallowed whole or crushed if preferred.
Typically, your doctor will initiate treatment with a low initial dose of eslicarbazepine, which may be gradually increased after one week. If necessary for effective seizure control, the doctor may consider further dosage adjustments at least one week later.
While eslicarbazepine can aid in managing seizures, it does not offer a cure for the underlying condition. Continue taking eslicarbazepine even if you feel well. Discontinuing eslicarbazepine without consulting your doctor, even in the presence of severe side effects such as significant behavioral or mood changes, can result in a higher frequency or worsening of seizures. If discontinuation becomes necessary, your doctor will likely recommend a gradual reduction of the dosage.
