Description
Indications
Moxifloxacin is an antibiotic medication that is prescribed to treat bacterial infections such as pneumonia, skin infections, and abdominal infections. It is also utilized to prevent and treat plague, a severe infection that may be intentionally spread as part of a bioterror attack. This medication may be recommended for the treatment of bronchitis or sinus infections, but only if there are no other treatment options available.
Moxifloxacin belongs to a class of antibiotics known as fluoroquinolones, which operate by eliminating the bacteria that cause infections. Antibiotics, including moxifloxacin, are ineffective against viral infections such as colds or the flu. Misuse of antibiotics may raise the likelihood of contracting antibiotic-resistant infections in the future, only use antibiotics when they are medically necessary.
