Description

Indications

Nebivolol is prescribed as a monotherapy or in combination with other medications for the management of hypertension. High blood pressure increases the workload of the heart and arteries, which can lead to impaired functioning over time. Chronic hypertension can cause damage to blood vessels in vital organs such as the brain, heart, and kidneys, which may result in serious health complications like stroke, heart failure, or kidney failure. Hypertension is a significant risk factor for heart attacks.

Nebivolol is classified as a beta-blocker, which functions by modulating the response to nerve impulses in specific areas of the body, including the heart. This medication decelerates heart rate and reduces blood pressure. Lowering blood pressure leads to an enhanced supply of oxygenated blood to the heart.

Uses and Dosage

Nebivolol is available in tablet form for oral administration. It is typically ingested once daily, with or without food.

To ensure consistent adherence, take nebivolol at the same time each day. Follow the instructions on the prescription label. Nebivolol must be taken precisely as directed; do not alter the dosage or frequency without the approval of your doctor.

The initial dosage of nebivolol may be low, with subsequent increments not exceeding once every two weeks, as directed by your physician.

Nebivolol effectively regulates high blood pressure but does not cure the condition. It may take up to two weeks before nebivolol’s full efficacy in blood pressure regulation is apparent. Despite feeling better, continue taking nebivolol. Discontinuing nebivolol abruptly may trigger angina, heart attack, or irregular heartbeat. Your doctor may gradually decrease the dosage over one to two weeks.

Caution

Prior to taking nebivolol, inform your physician or pharmacist of any allergies you may have or other medications you are allergic to. The inactive ingredients in the product can also cause allergic reactions or other complications.

Before taking this medication, disclose your medical history to your doctor or pharmacist, especially if you have heart rhythm issues such as slow heartbeat or second- or third-degree atrioventricular block, circulation problems like Raynaud’s disease or peripheral vascular disease, respiratory problems like asthma, chronic bronchitis, or emphysema, kidney or liver disease, heart failure, mood disorders such as depression, a specific muscle disorder known as myasthenia gravis, overactive thyroid disease (hyperthyroidism), or have previously experienced severe allergic reactions requiring treatment with epinephrine.

This medication may cause dizziness. Consuming alcohol or marijuana may exacerbate the dizziness. Do not operate machinery or drive until you can do so safely.

If you have diabetes, this product may mask the fast or pounding heartbeat usually associated with low blood sugar (hypoglycemia). This medication may also make it difficult to regulate your blood sugar. Regularly check your blood sugar levels as directed, and immediately inform your doctor of any symptoms of high blood sugar, such as increased thirst or urination. Your physician may need to adjust your diabetes medication, exercise program, or diet.

Children may be more susceptible to low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), particularly if they are vomiting or not eating regularly. To avoid hypoglycemia, establish regular feeding schedules for children.

This medication should only be taken during pregnancy if necessary. Babies born to mothers taking this drug during pregnancy may have low birth weight and require monitoring for complications such as low blood pressure, slow heartbeat, low blood sugar, and slow/shallow breathing. Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor before use.

It is unclear whether this medication passes into breast milk. Consult your doctor before breastfeeding.
