Description
Indications
Bimatoprost is a medication indicated for patients with insufficient or inadequate eyelashes. By stimulating the growth of additional eyelashes and enhancing their length, thickness, and darkness, bimatoprost renders them more visible. This effect is due to the similarity of bimatoprost to a natural chemical found in the body, known as prostaglandin.
Bimatoprost is also used to treat glaucoma, although caution must be exercised to avoid unintended application of the medication onto the eyes while using it for eyelash growth. Such an occurrence may reduce the effectiveness of bimatoprost for treating glaucoma.
Uses and Dosage
Topical bimatoprost is available in liquid form to apply to the upper eyelids. Typically, it is applied once daily in the evening. Use it at the same time every day.
Strictly adhere to the prescribed dosage and frequency and avoid using more or less of it or using it more frequently than directed.
Using topical bimatoprost more than once a day will not increase eyelash growth. It may take up to four weeks before any visible benefit from the medication is noticed, and the full effect may take up to 16 weeks.
Continue using topical bimatoprost as directed, even if there is some improvement. The medication only promotes eyelash growth as long as it is used. If discontinued, eyelashes will return to their original state within a few weeks to months.
Avoid applying topical bimatoprost to the lower eyelids or broken or irritated skin on the upper eyelids. Repeated application of the solution may promote hair growth on other areas of the skin. Blot excess solution outside the upper eyelid margin with a tissue or absorbent material.
In case topical bimatoprost accidentally gets into your eye(s) during application, it is not expected to cause any harm, and you should not rinse your eye(s).
Topical bimatoprost is accompanied by sterile applicators for use. Avoid reusing them or using a cotton swab or any other brush or applicator.
