H1N1 Vaccine Side Effects

In a recent survey it was found that many Americans are still cautious about the side effects associated with the H1N1 vaccine, including rare diseases. There are now more side effects reported, including very dangerous symptoms.

Various pregnant mothers who took the swine flu vaccine reported miscarriages. This and other dangerous side effects occurred within hours to days of having the vaccine.

Children who receive two H1N1 vaccines have found the 2nd injection causes more serious side effects. The 1st injection has mild side effects for both children and adults. These include redness and soreness where injected, and a runny nose. The 2nd injection side effects were fever, muscle pain, drowsiness and irritability. GlaxoSmithKline recently stated that the 2nd dose of the H1N1 shot is no longer necessary for children. This is still undecided as there is further discussion needed between GlaxoSmithKline and the European health authorities.

In Taiwan, middle school students recently received H1H1 shots. 46 students were sent to the hospital because of nausea symptoms. This may be attributed to nervousness.

Guillain-Barre syndrome is a common worry. There have been 6 cases which are associated with the swine flu vaccine. Guillain-Barre syndrome is where the body’s immune system attacks part of the peripheral nervous system. It may eventually lead to death.

The side effects the swine flu vaccine is most commonly reported to give a patient are pain, redness, and swelling where injected. Headaches, fevers, fatigue, and muscle aches are also somewhat common. These symptoms should go away within 2 days of the shot.

To decrease the possibility of side effects one should avoid getting the vaccination on an empty stomach. If you are still concerned, stay near the location where you received your shot for 30 minutes after completion to watch for reactions.
