HIV Positive German Pop Star Apologizes In Court

German pop star, Nadja Benaissa, was in court in Darmstadt, where she apologized for her actions. She allegedly had unprotected sex on five occasions with 3 people, without telling her partners that she was indeed HIV positive. One of these partners has been confirmed as being HIV positive.

The former member of the group No Angels is facing 6 months to 10 years in prison if she is found guilty. The verdict of the trial is due on August 26. I hope she gets the maximum sentence for her actions, as she has inevitably changed at least one person’s life forever.

Although HIV/AIDS medications have come a very long way in recent years, HIV is still a very serious and very dangerous illness. Those with HIV will always have that fear that one day, maybe they’ll develop AIDS and become very ill. There’s also the fact that a person with HIV will have to be on medications for the rest of their life. These medications aren’t always cheap either. Furthermore, some people in society will treat a person with HIV differently. While it may not seem fair, it is a reality, as some people still view HIV/AIDS in a very negative light.

While Benaissa may be managing her condition, her former lover may not be so lucky. Her previous partner may have a very aggressive form of HIV that quickly develops into AIDS and wreaks all kinds of havoc on her health.

Honestly, a “sorry” from Benaissa now is just not going to cut it. It just isn’t good enough. That’s why I’m hoping she is given the maximum sentence.
