Description
Indications
This combination hormone medication serves the purpose of contraceptive use, effectively preventing pregnancy. Its composition comprises two distinct hormones: a progestin known as levonorgestrel and an estrogen called ethinyl estradiol. Beyond its contraceptive function, birth control pills can contribute to the regularity of your menstrual cycles, reduce menstrual blood flow and associated discomfort, lower the risk of ovarian cysts, and even address acne concerns.
Uses and Dosage
Take this medication orally as instructed by your doctor, typically once daily. Select a convenient time of day and adhere to a consistent schedule, ensuring you take the pill at the same time each day.
Refer to the package instructions to locate the initial tablet, begin with the first one in the package, and take them sequentially without skipping any doses. Missing pills, initiating a new pack late, or altering your pill-taking time may increase the likelihood of pregnancy.
Vomiting or diarrhea can potentially reduce the efficacy of your birth control pills. In the event of vomiting or diarrhea, you may need to use an additional contraceptive method as a backup (such as condoms or spermicide).
If you experience stomach upset or nausea with this medication, taking it after your evening meal or at bedtime may alleviate these symptoms. Alternatively, you can choose a different time of day that is more convenient for you. Regardless of the dosing schedule you opt for, consistency is key: take the medication at the same time every day, with a 24-hour interval between doses. If you have any questions, consult your doctor or pharmacist.
Commence this medication on the first Sunday following the onset of your menstrual period. If your period starts on a Sunday, commence the medication on that day. Your pill pack comprises 84 active pills (containing hormones) and 7 inactive pills (lacking hormones). Take one active pill daily for 84 consecutive days. The day after you complete all the active pills, begin taking one inactive pill daily for 7 days in a row. Your menstrual period should occur during the week when you are taking the inactive pills. On the day following the consumption of the last inactive tablet in the pack, initiate a new pack, irrespective of whether your period has occurred. In case your period does not occur, consult your doctor.
If this is your first time using this medication, use an additional form of non-hormonal contraception (like condoms or spermicide) for the initial 7 days to prevent pregnancy until the medication has had sufficient time to take effect. If you commence on the first day of your period, there is no need for backup birth control during the first week.

Before initiating this medication, please inform your doctor or pharmacist of any known allergies to ethinyl estradiol, levonorgestrel, other estrogens, progestins, or any other substances. This product may contain inactive components that can induce allergic reactions or other complications.
Prior to commencing this medication, discuss your medical history with your doctor or pharmacist, particularly if you have experienced or currently have conditions such as blood clots, blood clotting disorders, high blood pressure, irregular breast examinations, a history of cancer, elevated cholesterol or triglyceride levels in the blood, depression, diabetes, a family or personal history of a specific swelling disorder (angioedema), gallbladder issues, severe headaches or migraines, heart problems, a history of jaundice during pregnancy or while using hormonal birth control (like pills or patches), kidney disease, liver disease (including tumors), stroke, swelling (edema), thyroid disorders, or unexplained vaginal bleeding.
If you have diabetes, be aware that this medication may affect your blood sugar levels. Follow your doctor’s instructions for regular blood sugar monitoring and share the results with them. If you experience symptoms of high blood sugar, such as increased thirst or urination, inform your doctor promptly. Adjustments to your diabetes medication, exercise routine, or diet may be necessary.
Notify your doctor if you have recently undergone surgery, are planning surgery, or anticipate being immobile for an extended period (e.g., a lengthy plane journey). These circumstances heighten the risk of blood clot formation, particularly when using hormonal birth control. Your doctor may recommend discontinuing this medication temporarily or adopting specific precautions.
This medication may result in the development of blotchy, dark patches on your skin and face (melasma), which can worsen with exposure to sunlight. Limit your sun exposure, steer clear of tanning beds and sunlamps, and employ sunscreen and protective clothing when outdoors.
If you are nearsighted or wear contact lenses, you may experience vision problems or encounter difficulties wearing your contacts. Should these issues arise, contact your eye doctor for assistance.
Conception may take longer after discontinuing birth control pills. Consult your doctor for guidance.
Do not use this medication during pregnancy. In the event of pregnancy or suspicion of pregnancy, inform your doctor immediately. If you have recently given birth or experienced a pregnancy loss/abortion after the first three months, consult your doctor regarding reliable forms of contraception. Determine when it is safe to initiate estrogen-containing birth control, like this medication.
This medication may reduce the production of breast milk and transfer a small quantity into breast milk, potentially causing undesirable effects on a nursing infant. Seek advice from your doctor before breastfeeding.
